Young M.A. Wikipedia Biography

Rapper Katorah Kasanova Marrero was born in the United States on April 3, 1992. Young M.A., an abbreviation meaning for “Young Me. Always,” is her more well-known stage name. After the release of the breakthrough track “Ooouuu,” which went on to earn quadruple platinum status, peak at number 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and garner over 300 million views on YouTube for its accompanying music video, she initially gained wide recognition. After the success of her debut single, Young M.A received numerous nominations for prizes including Artist of the Year and Female Hip-Hop Artist of the Year. Both BET and MTV submitted nominations for these awards. She began to show up on magazine covers. She has participated in international commercial campaigns for brands like Pandora, Beats by Dre, and Google Pixel 2. M.A has been on a variety of television programs, such as The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where she performed alongside Alicia Keys. Young M.A. and her mother co-founded the KWEENZ Foundation in 2018, the same year that Forbes named her one of the 30 Under 30. In addition, a proclamation was made in Young M.A.’s honor by the city of New York.

Young M.A. Early Years

Katorah Marrero was created on April 3, 1992, in the American city of Brooklyn, New York. She has a distinctive cultural heritage thanks to her Jamaican mother and Puerto Rican father. Her father spent a total of about ten years in prison, entering when she was barely a year old and exiting when she was 11 years old. Young M.A. became very close to her mother and her brother, Kenneth Ramos, as a result of the absence of her father. Marrero’s mother decided to uproot the family and go to Chesterfield, Virginia, when Marrero was seven years old. She made this decision since the new community offered better educational possibilities and was safer for her children than East New York. While she was a resident in Virginia, she began playing tackle football. When M.A. was ten years old, she first started composing rhymes in her schoolbooks. Her mother encouraged her and even made the purchase of a karaoke machine, which M.A. later used to set up a temporary recording studio in one of her closets. Sheepshead Bay High School awarded her a certificate in the year 2010.

Music Career

Young M.A. raps about many of the same topics that male rappers do, including, among other things, violence, sexuality, riches, and acquisitions. She said, “We cannot pretend differently; there is no escaping the fact that men predominate in this area. As a result, if you’re a woman and you succeed in a field where men predominate, you feel more gratitude. Even as a young child, M.A. always showed a keen interest in music. She spent her adult life really pursuing a career in music, working at Shake Shack and T.J. Maxx to self-finance a recording studio she built up with local record producers.

She gained notoriety in 2014 after a Facebook post critiqued her song “Brooklyn Chiraq,” a freestyle to the song “ChiRaq” by Nicki Minaj and G Herbo. The song later gained enormous online popularity. The music, according to the post’s author, pundit Boyce Watkins, promoted “violent, negative, and murderous spirit.” Despite this, the issue helped Young M.A. gain more notoriety and drew in new fans to her music. Young M.A. released a new song that year called “Body Bag,” which turned into a “YouTube success,” in addition to her mixtape Sleep Walkin’, which MTV called a “thoughtful first record.” The song was described as such in Rolling Stone. Young M.A. made her formal debut in 2016 with the track “Ooouuu,” which peaked at number 19 on the American Billboard Hot 100 list. The song had close to 7 million Spotify plays in September 2016, and numerous rappers and hip-hop artists, including Remy Ma, French Montana, Nicki Minaj, Jadakiss, Uncle Murda, ASAP Ferg, Bryan Mathers, and Tink, remixed it. These musicians all released their unique renditions of the song. Tom Breihan of Stereogum called “Ooouuu” “a bombastic, powerful, hard-as-fuck piece of rider music.” The song “feels like it signifies the arrival of a significant rap talent,” he continued. According to The Fader, Young M.A. is “a quintessential New York MC,” and according to MTV’s Doreen St. Félix, “this summer, the atmosphere belongs to Young M.A. and her hit ‘OOOUUU.'” Despite the attention that M.A. has received from record labels as a result of the song’s fame, she is still an independent artist.

She performed “Ooouuu” as a freestyle on a cypher at the 2016 BET Hip Hop Awards, which XXL Magazine termed a “show-stopping freestyle… one of the best freestyles of the night.” It was praised as “one of the best freestyles of the night” for her performance. Young M.A. expressed her displeasure, claiming that BET left out portions of her performance even though her audience responded to it with great enthusiasm. [29] At Hot 97’s Summer Jam 2017, M.A. was one of the many great female rappers that stormed the stage during Remy Ma’s performance. There have been a lot of chances and, of course, a lot of money, but there is also a drawback: you lose a lot of the individuals who were previously close to you once their true colors start to emerge. Millions of online streams and views have been built up by freestyles like “Who Run It” and “I Get The Bag,” which have added to the success of her prior track, “Walk,”[32] which has had more than 20 million plays. Rumor has it that M.A.’s single “Praktice” refers to the idea that each of her prior albums has been a step toward the completion of this one. Young M.A.’s first studio album, Herstory in the Making, was released on September 27, 2019, and peaked at number 16 on the Billboard 200 list. The album featured the hits “Big” and “PettyWap 2”. The extended play (EP) “Red Flu” was her first new release since the release of her debut album and it was made available on May 22, 2020. She stated that Off the Yak, her second studio album, would be released on May 21, 2021. Pitchfork gave the album a 6.9 out of 10 grade.

Other Initiatives

Young M.A. said in a 2016 Rolling Stone interview that Lee Daniels had offered to cast her in the Empire television series as “Betty Bars.” She was offered the job and the character, both of which had been made especially for her, but she turned both down, choosing instead to pursue a career as a rapper on her own terms and under her own name rather than being known initially as a fictional character. She mentions having been given the job in her freestyle. She rapped, “Check,” giving credit to Fox for attempting to book me for that Empire. I initially had to decline it because it wasn’t up to par. Because Young M.A. is here, bitch! What in the world are “Betty Bars”?

Her debut pornographic film, The Gift, a lesbian porn movie made by Pornhub, was directed by her in 2018. She served as the film’s director. Additionally, she appeared in Mr. Robot’s fourth and final season in 2019, portraying Peanuts, a worker for the villain Fernando Vera. Young M.A was the first guest artist to perform on a single from Eminem’s unexpectedly released album Music to Be Murdered By in the year 2020, “Unaccommodating.”

Private life

Throughout the duration of her career, Young M.A. has never attempted to hide the fact that she is a lesbian in any of her songs. She said this during an appearance with The Breakfast Club and claimed that she has been smitten with women since the first grade. In an interview with Vogue, she claimed that coming out as a lesbian was a critical point in her development as a musician. She said, “Once I let the sexual attraction to women out of me, the music became effortless.” Her coming out was a pivotal moment in her creative development. As of 2019, she prefers not to identify with any particular label; in answer to Jason Lee of Hollywood Unlocked’s inquiry concerning her sexual orientation, the rapper known by the stage moniker Young M.A. said, “Actually, my name is Young M.A. We don’t do labels at all. I just didn’t think I could ever date a man. I don’t believe that is a good idea, brother. In an interview with The Breakfast Club, Young M.A. stated that she constantly felt out of place when she was attempting to conceal her sexuality.

But she persistently refused to admit that she was a lesbian, despite her mother’s repeated attempts to bring up the subject. She acknowledged that she was worried her mother wouldn’t accept her if she came out to her. “I used to be terrified to tell my mums,” she admitted in the interview, “even though I knew she wasn’t the kind of mother to be like ‘Oh, I don’t like you’ or ‘I’m going to ignore you.'” Young M.A. said in a previous interview, “I was afraid to communicate it to individuals who are close to me. Even though I knew in my heart that I enjoyed women, I wasn’t ready to embrace it yet. [Reference required]

She came out to her family about her sexual orientation when she was 18 years old. She believed that this was a pivotal moment in her rap career. In a separate interview with Noisey Raps[6], she added the following: “Since I came out publicly, that’s when all the chicks flopped, that’s when it was a wrap,” she joked. “Since I officially came out, that’s when all the girls flipped, and that’s when it was over,” the woman said. In addition, she claimed that because she is more relaxed, people “feel her more.” She then said, “After I had established my individuality, I was able to finish the music,” to continue. The only way to hear my voice is through music. Music has always been my outlet. The ability of music to heal me. I’m going to discuss my sexuality at this point in the chat. I can finally let it out after holding it inside for so long.

Marrero acknowledged that her upbringing in New York City played a significant role in helping her come to grips with both her sexuality and her identity. It’s a widespread practice in New York City, the rapper claims. There are a lot of gay individuals out there, I used to think to myself when I was younger. And it unwinds me to the extent that I feel free to be who I am! There were simply too many ladies who considered me appealing, so I used to deny its presence until I could no longer do so. She is open about being a lesbian, but she does not want that to be the thing that people remember most about her as an artist.

Young M.A.’s brother, Kenneth Ramos, was fatally murdered on September 26, 2009, by a person who had once been his buddy. When M.A. was younger, she battled depression and through a time of grieving, which resulted in her missing a month of school. She later went to therapy to help her deal with the loss.

Young M.A KWEENZ Foundation

Young M.A., the organization’s founder, formed the KWEENZ Foundation. One of the goals of the KWEENZ foundation is to “assist others living in her East New York area in overcoming the grief and anguish that comes with the loss of a loved one.” According to her, “Kings and Queens…KWEENZ,” both men and women are welcome at the event. Because she sadly lost her kid, my brother, in 2009, I stated, “I got my mother engaged. This is something for her to get into that will offer her a little relief and allow her to meet other mothers who have been in her circumstance so that they aren’t alone.” “I got her involved because it will provide her with some relief and help her to connect with other mothers who have been in her situation,” No matter how much success you have in this life, you still go through those hardships and you still feel that anguish, as young M.A. once said about life’s ups and downs.
