He lost his mother when he was just 14 years old and was left with his father and his siblings- a sister and two brothers. Like every Nigerian parent, Kelechi was punished whenever he went out to play football with his peers, but once he won a Youth tournament in Abuja, his parents let him be. He started his football career at Taye Academy, Owerri, Imo State, but he surfaced to the limelight when he was featured at the U-17 FIFA World cup in 2013, which he won as a member of the Nigerian national team.
In 2012, Kelechi went abroad to secure a deal with Manchester City, in England, he signed a pre-contract agreement with the club, as he could not join till his 18th birthday in 2014. During this period, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) named Kelechi Iheanacho as the most promising talent in 2013. While in USA, he was able to score against Sporting Kansas City, and against Milan. Upon his return with Manchester City back to England, he was allowed to train with Columbus Crew until mid-October in 2014. He started playing officially for Manchester City in 2015, making his debut at the under-19 level at a UEFA youth league match, when he sustained an unfortunate injury.
Kelechi Iheanacho and KaluHe continued to play at Manchester City scoring many goals, and on the 3rd of August 2017, he signed a 5-years long contract with Leicester City for a transfer fee of 25 million Pounds. On 16th January 2018, Kelechi Iheanacho became the first player in English football to score a goal as a result of Video Assistant Referee (VAR).
